At-Home Nail Grooming Tips

With our busy schedules, we don’t always have the luxury of time to get our nails done in our trusted nail salons. Knowing this, some of us might’ve even probably executed at-home manicures and pedicures, but for those who aren’t deft with nail polishes and brushes, keeping a clean and natural nail look is the way to go. There’s really no need for you to use colour just to get a gorgeous DIY manicure, just use the following tips to keep your nails looking sharp and clean, and you’re good to go.

  1. Soak and Exfoliate. Before you start with the grooming process, soak your hands in a bowl of warm water first. This will soften your nail beds, making clipping and filing your nails a lot easier. After that, exfoliate your hands with a hand scrub to smooth your skin and cuticles.
  1. Remove the Dirt Beneath Your Nails. Once you’re done exfoliating, remove all the dirt underneath your nails using an orange stick. If you happen to have an old polish stuck beneath your fingertips, just wrap a cotton pad or ball on the stick, soak it in a polish remover and remove the dirt.
  1. File in One Direction. Filing your nails back and forth is an instant recipe for disaster, as it can result to jagged nails that are more susceptible to breaking and peeling. Instead, gently drag your file in one direction at a time. Patiently file from one side to another until your nails are already smooth.

  1. Use a Nail Buffer. Not only will it help in polishing the surface of your nails, it’ll also smooth out any dents on your nail while removing any polish residues in the process. You can also use the buffer on the tips of your nails to finish your filing job.
  1. Push Cuticles Back. Even if you’ve done at-home nail grooming before, never attempt to cut your cuticles at home. Instead, use cuticle-removing products to remove any dead skin and push your cuticles back.

Grooming your nails on your own may seem a bit tricky at first, but as you master the technique to perfectly cleaning them, you’ll surely skip on visiting your favourite nail salon.
